Experimental: Crimson Snow
I’ve been a casual watcher of Game of Thrones for the last few years and am super excited to see how all of the different plotlines will wrap up in Season 7! When I think back on the show, images of snow and blood usually come up, so I created a Game of Thrones inspired cocktail for your Sunday night viewing parties. The snow comes from blended ice cubes and the red comes from a simple syrup made with raspberries, pomegranates, and cherries (click to see recipe). You can easily make a pitcher of the cocktail liquid without ice and serve your guests tableside when the show starts.
Crimson Snow Recipe (1 serving)
- 2 oz. white rum
- 1 oz. berry syrup (click to see recipe)
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 0.25 oz. yellow chartreuse
- 3 dashes bitters
- Optional: 0.25 oz. grenadine for a deeper red color and extra sweetness
Equipment
- Mixing glass (either a stainless steel shaker container or a glass coffee french press container)
- Blender
- Jigger
- Citrus press
- Hawthorne strainer
- Goblet-type glassware, stored in the freezer
Directions
- Pulse 4-5 cups of ice cubes in a blender until the ice turns into the consistency of powdery snow
- Add berry syrup, lime, rum, yellow chartreuse, bitters, and optional grenadine into the mixing glass
- Fill the goblet with snow
- Add a handful of ice into the drink mixture and swirl the container around for a few seconds
- Place the Hawthorne strainer over the mixing glass
- To serve, place the goblet next to your guest and pour the drink directly over the snow
- To garnish, place a fresh raspberry on top
Cheers!
Berry Syrup Recipe (makes around 1.5 cups)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup fresh raspberries
- 1/2 cup fresh pomegranate seeds (available at Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods)
- 1/4 cup fresh red cherries, pit removed
Berry Syrup Directions
- Add sugar to a heat proof container and boil the water
- Pour boiling water into the container and stir until the sugar dissolves
- While the syrup is cooling, pit the cherries and prep the pomegranate if needed
- Once the simple syrup is cooled, add 1 cup of the simple syrup and all of the fruits into the blender
- Blend for a few minutes until you can no longer see any bits of fruit
- Strain the mixture into a Mason jar
