Experimental: Spooky Luna
In honor of the spookiest time of year and the spookiest cat in our house, I dedicate this drink to my black cat Luna! To make this drink a dark black color, I used activated charcoal, which is safe to ingest in small quantities and may have some detoxifying effects. The charcoal dyes the drink a cool black color, but has no impact on the flavor. Consider this for your next Halloween party!
Spooky Luna (1 serving)
- 1.5 oz. whiskey
- 0.5 oz. yellow chartreuse
- 0.25 oz. Benedictine (the brand I use is technically a mix of Benedictine and Brandy, which still works)
- 0.25 oz. 2:1 simple syrup
- 0.75 oz. fresh lemon zest
- 1/8 tsp. activated charcoal (Amazon link)
- 3 dashes Angostura bitters
Equipment
Directions
- Zest 0.75 ounces of lemon (around 1 medium sized lemon)
- Add the zest, whiskey, yellow chartreuse, Benedictine, syrup, charcoal, and bitters into the shaker
- Add 3-4 handfuls of ice into the container and seal the shaker
- Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds and the shaker is completely frosted
- Place a Hawthorne strainer on top of the shaker and double-strain the drink through a fine mesh strainer placed over the glass
- No garnish needed
Enjoy!
