Experimental: Cachaça Ginger Fizz

It feels like spring is right around the corner, so I think it’s the perfect time to try another cocktail made with cachaça, Brazil’s most popular liquor. The only other drink I’ve had that uses cachaça is a Caipirinha, but I think this Ginger Fizz recipe highlights how well the peppery liquor flavor can blend with other strong flavors. To get the tasty “fizz” effect, all you have to do is shake the egg white with the rest of the ingredients (no dry shake required!) and add sparkling water.

Cachaça Ginger Fizz: 1.5 ounces Cachaça, 0.75 ounces Ginger Liquor, 0.75 ounces Lemon, 1 Egg White, 2 Sage leaves, 0.75 ounces Agave Nectar, 2 ounces Sparkling Water

Cachaça Ginger Fizz Recipe (1 serving)

  • 1.5 oz. cachaça
  • 0.75 oz. ginger liquor
  • 0.75 oz. agave nectar
  • 0.75 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 sage leaves
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 oz. sparkling water
  • Optional: 2 dashes of black walnut bitters or peach bitters

Equipment

Directions

  1. Cut the lemon in half and use the citrus press to squeeze 0.75 ounces of juice into the shaker
  2. Add the cachaça, ginger liquor, agave nectar, sage leaves, and egg white into the shaker
  3. Add 3-4 handfuls of ice into the container and seal the shaker
  4. Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds and the shaker is completely frosted
  5. Add ice to the Collins glass until 3/4 full
  6. Place a Hawthorne strainer on top of the shaker and double-strain the drink through a fine mesh strainer placed over the glass
  7. Top with sparkling water until the glass is filled
  8. To garnish, cut a lemon wheel and place on the edge of the glass

Cheers!
