Classics Series: Sidecar
Hope you enjoyed Super Bowl weekend! To help digest the extra chicken wings and beer, today’s cocktail is a Sidecar, a classic drink that has been around since WWI and is literally named after the motorcycle attachment. It’s a boozy orange drink that can be easily adjusted to be sweeter or more sour based on your preferences.
Sidecar Recipe (1 serving)
- 1.5 oz. cognac
- 0.75 oz. triple sec (I used Cointreau brand)
- 0.75 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp. 2:1 simple syrup
- 2 dashes orange bitters
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Citrus press
- Jigger
- Hawthorne strainer
- Fine mesh strainer
- Coupe glass, stored in the freezer
Directions
- Squeeze 0.75 ounces of lemon juice and add to the shaker
- Add the triple sec, cognac, simple syrup, and bitters into the shaker
- Add 3-4 handfuls of ice into the container and seal the shaker
- Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds and the shaker is completely frosted
- Place a Hawthorne strainer on top of the shaker and double-strain the drink through a fine mesh strainer placed over the glass
- To garnish, twist a thin strip of orange peel over the edge of the glass
Cheers!
