Classics Series: Dark and Stormy

When the weather matches the drink, you know it’s fate. The Dark and Stormy is another classic cocktail that’s made with dark rum, ginger beer, and lime. This drink is super easy to make and can be easily adjusted to your taste. Instead of regular dark rum, this recipe uses homemade spiced rum made with Chinese five-spice powder, which contains cinnamon, fennel seeds, star anise, ginger, and cloves. The spiced rum gives the Dark and Stormy an extra flavor quick and balances out the strong ginger flavor.
Dark and Stormy Ingredients: 2 ounces rum, 5 ounces ginger beer, Quarter of a lime

Classic Dark and Stormy Recipe (1 serving)

  • 2 oz. spiced dark rum (Add 1 teaspoon of Chinese five-spice powder to one 750-ml bottle of 80-proof dark rum. Shake well and allow to infuse for 24 hours, shaking regularly. When ready, strain the rum through a coffee filter and rebottle.)
  • 5 oz. ginger beer
  • Quarter of a lime, cut into wedges

  1. Add 2-3 handfuls of ice to the Collins glass
  2. Add rum, ginger, and a squeeze of lime
  3. To garnish, cut a wedge of lime and place on the edge of the glass
