Classics Series: French 75
Welcome to 2018! It’s been a busy couple of months with moving to D.C. and spending time with family for the holidays, but House of Mary is back in full swing with a classic drink that’s perfect for using up any leftover champagne from New Years. The French 75 (aka Soixante Quinze) dates back to WWI and is similar to a Tom Collins with champagne instead of sparkling water.
The wheels on our bar didn’t quite survive the move, so trying out a new background for this week 🙂
French 75 Recipe (1 serving)
- 2 oz. dry champagne
- 1 oz. gin
- 1 oz. of fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz. of 2:1 simple syrup
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Jigger
- Citrus press
- Hawthorne strainer
- Fine mesh strainer
- Wine or champagne glass, stored in the freezer
Directions
- Cut the lemon in half and use the citrus press to squeeze 1 ounce of juice into the shaker
- Add the simple syrup and gin
- Add 3-4 handfuls of ice into the container and seal the shaker
- Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds and the shaker is completely frosted
- Remove the top and add 2 ounces of champagne into the shaker
- Remove the glass from the freezer and add ice
- Place a Hawthorne strainer on top of the shaker and double-strain the drink through a fine mesh strainer placed over the glass
- To garnish, cut a long piece of lemon rind and twist over the glass
Cheers!
