Modern Classics: Greenpoint
New York City is home to many modern cocktails including The Manhattan and the Brooklyn. One of the more recent developments is a drink created by NYC’s Milk & Honey Bar called the Greenpoint, which is named after the Greenpoint neighborhood in Brooklyn. Like the Manhattan, the Greenpoint is made with both rye whiskey and sweet vermouth, with the addition of yellow chartreuse and bitters. The result is a delicate drink that has a hint of sweetness and a pleasant herbal bitterness.
Greenpoint Recipe (1 serving)
- 2 oz. rye whiskey
- 0.5 oz. sweet vermouth (recommend Carpano’s Antica Formula brand, which also makes a great Manhattan)
- 0.5 oz. yellow chartreuse (can substitute green chartreuse, which will make a stronger and more bitter drink)
- 1 dash orange bitters
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Orange peel for garnish
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Bar spoon
- Jigger
- Hawthorne strainer
- Coupe glass, stored in the freezer
Directions
- Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and yellow chartreuse into a stainless steel container
- Add enough ice so that the ice rises above the liquid
- Use a bar spoon to stir the mixture until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty (30 seconds to a minute)
- Remove the coupe glass from the freezer
- Place a Hawthorne strainer on top of the shaker and strain the drink into the glass
- To garnish, twist an orange peel and drop into the drink
Cheers!
